Rival teams hold match for charity

MANILA — It’s only a goodwill game, but one can never tell every time La Salle and Ateneo go out to the court and play.
“There’s no such thing as an exhibition game for La Salle and Ateneo,” said coach Franz Pumaren, when asked for his thoughts about the Feb. 5 match dubbed “Blue vs. Green: Dream Game 2012.”

Although Pumaren expects the match – a joint effort by the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and Mastermind Entertainment - to be as intense and as competitive as when the two schools meet in the UAAP, and earlier in the NCAA, he welcomes the idea of having to play for a good cause, especially one benefiting young cancer patients of the Philippine Children’s Medical Center.
‘It’s always a pleasure to play in a fund-raising game, especially if it meant to generate funds for cancer patients,” said Pumaren, a former Quezon City councilor and a member of the first batch of Green Archers who played when the school made its jump to the UAAP in 1986.
