USC to hold NCFP-rated tourney

CHESS will open big this year as a National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) rated age group tournament will blast off on Feb. 11 and 12 at the University of San Carlos North Campus gym.
The 1st USC-BED Active Chess Tournament, a tournament for players aged 16 and under, is a project of the USC-Basic Education elementary and high school chess teams and offers P8,000 in cash prizes.

The champion of the event will go home with P3,000 plus a gold medal, while the second placer will get P2,000 and a silver medal. The third placer will earn a bronze medal and P1,000, while the fourth and fifth placers will get P500, each. The top ladies and youngest player will also earn P500.
The event is a seven-round Swiss System tournament with an active time control of 25 minutes per player.
Non-USC students who sign up early will pay P200, while those who sign up onsite will pay P250. USC students will pay P100 for early registration and P150 during tournament day.
Participants must bring an NSO copy of their birth certificate to verify their age and may also reserve slots online by sending an e-mail to felixpoloyapoy@yahoo.com and saturn_227@yahoo.com.
