UV Baby Lancers pulls off lopsided win in SBP National Under-16 finals
Saturday, January 28, 2012
THE University of the Visayas Pasarelle squad showed to be more efficient and battle-ready, and won a one-sided 120-75 bashing over the Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School of Cagayan de Oro City in the championship match of the 2012 Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) National U-16 Championships in Baguio City yesterday.
UV Pasarelle put the game away as early as the first 10 minutes.

“The title is very sweet. Our Pasarelle program is just two years old and here we are now winning the championship and a national title at that,” UV Pasarelle co-coach Randy de la Pisa told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
The victory was very sweet indeed for UV, which was nearly sent packing early after losing its opening day game to St. John Institute of Bacolod City.
“That was behind us now. We told the boys that we need to play out there with our best. We (coaching staff) made sure that they would forget our first game jitters so they can focus on the championship,” added de la Pisa in Cebuano.
UV jumped quickly on the hapless Cagayanons, and using a 1-2-2 trapping defense, the Cebuanos scored more on fastbreaks while clobbering Sacred Heart with outside shots when they went on a half-court set-up.
“I’m so proud of my boys. First of all, I’d like to thank God for blessing us with this national championship. Secondly, I thank the UV administration for its all-out support, even though everyone else counted us out. This victory is not just for UV but for Cebu as well,” said UV team manager Sam-Sam Gullas in a text message.
UV booted out the title favorite, University of Santo Tomas Pasarelle team, 93-87, while Sacred Heart booted out UV’s tormentor St. John in a high-scoring 120-116 decision.
Again Cesafi MVP, the 15-year old Andres Paul Desiderio led UV to victory as he scored the game high 33 points.
Leonard Santillan made 24, Ralf Jude Dinulan added 20 and Gerald Fernandez contributed 18 markers for UV.
