WBO to hold basketball tournament
Saturday, January 28, 2012
WHEN you hear the name World Boxing Organization (WBO), the only thing that comes to anybody’s mind is boxing. However, one of the four major boxing sanctioning bodies is swimming in different waters as it holds a youth basketball tournament here in Cebu.
“It is the first time. The sporting event is sponsored by the WBO through Leon Panoncillo,” said veteran boxing promoter Sammy Gello-ani, 2011 WBO Asia-Pacific Promoter of the Year, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

The WBO Kids Drug-Free Program basketball tournament kicked off yesterday at the Greenhills Subdivision Sports and Leisure Park in Casuntingan, Mandaue City.
The basketball competition, spearheaded by WBO Asia-Pacific chairman Panoncillo and Gello-ani, has a total of four teams in the 19-Under division, wherein all the players are from the Baranggay Casuntingan.
If successful, we will continue the program and it will be bigger next year,” said Gello-ani.
