Amad wins Check youth tourney

SHERWIN Amad came out as the best player in the Chess Enthusiasts in Cebu for Kids (Check) 16- and Under tournament in Tabunok, Talisay City, last Saturday, Amad topped a very strong field of competition to run home with the P1,000 top prize in the tournament, participated by the top age group players in Metro Cebu.
Felix Shaun Balbona got second place and pocketed the P700 second prize, while Ryan Fernando got P500 for finishing third.

Amad scored a total of 5.5 points, while Balbona and Fernando each had 5.0 points but the former took second place after the tiebreaker.
All the top three winners also received a trophy while the fourth to the 10th
finishers got P100 consolation prize.
The organizers are expecting to hold more tournaments in the next few days to help develop and hone the kids’ talents.
