CEBUANO former world champion Rodel Mayol has gotten another title shot, this time, against World Boxing Association flyweight champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez in Mexico.
According to a report posted at Philboxing.com, Manny Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz struck a deal with promoter Fernando Beltran and Juan Carlos in San Antonio, Texas.

This will be the 30-year-old Mayol’s eighth world title fight. Mayol won the World Boxing Council (WBC) light flyweight crown in 2009 after a second-round stoppage over Edgar Sosa in Mexico, his fifth attempt at a world title.
Mayol’s title reign, however, was short-lived as he lost it to Omar Niño Romero in their rematch in 2010. Their first fight ended in a draw.
After his loss to Romero, Mayol moved up a division higher and has so far been successful at the 112-pound division, winning all four fights.
Mayol will attempt to join the elite multi-division Filipino champions as he guns for his second division crown. The list includes Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire Jr., Brian Viloria, Donnie Nietes, Gerry Peñalosa, Dodie Boy Peñalosa and Luisito Espinosa.
Mayol is an experienced fighter with a 30-5-2 slate with 22 knockouts. He has fought some of the top opposition in his division like Eagle Kyowa, Ivan Calderon and Ulises Solis.
Marquez, on the other hand, is also as impressive 32-2 and 25 knockouts.
