THE 2010 men’s Nestea Beach Volleyball National Champion Foundation University (FU) from Dumaguete City will dedicate its participation in next month’s Nestea Beach Volley Visayas elimination round in Moalboal, Cebu to their fellow Negrense, who were affected by last Monday’s 6.9-magnitude earthquake.
Despite suffering from a devastating quake, several aftershocks and a tsunami scare, the team continues to train in preparation for the regionals.
FU head coach Dwight Sun said they will be fielding a new set of players in the men’s and women’s team as they try to make another impressive performance in the national finals.
“Its hard to train with a heavy heart. We are living in fear. Lives are lost, there’s a lot of damage, some do not even have food and electricity,” Sun told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview.
However, Sun said, this will only serve as part of their challenge and motivation in capturing this year’s title despite the fact that they are fielding a new set of players.
FU is the only team from Dumaguete City that confirmed its participation. Ilo-ilo Doctors’ College and University of Iloilo decided to skip this year’s tournament.
The other teams that confirmed are the Southwestern University lady spikers, the men’s and women’s teams of University of Negros Occiental-Recoletos, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, University of San Jose Recoletos, University of San Carlos, University of San Agustin of Ilo-ilo, University of St. La Salle Bacolod, Colegio Dela Purisma. The men’s team of the University of Cebu and the women’s team of Cebu Doctors’ University are also competing.
The winners will earn slots to the national finals in Boracay.
