CFFL, not Guardians, get CCSC aid for Manila event

THE Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) has approved the financial assistance to the Cebu Flag Football League for its stint in the Asian Flag Football Championships on Feb. 24-25 in Manila.
CCSC will be giving P50,000 that will serve as reimbursement for the team’s registration in the tournament, which will be attended by teams from Singapore and Thailand.

“We decided to support them as the sport has been growing in the city now,” said Brando Velasquez of CCSC.
Aside from holding regular tournaments, the CFFL also holds free clinics during the summer.
CFFL, through defense coach RJ Hobson, sent the letter to CCSC last January and received a reply that the commission will support them.
“They have agreed to commit with us,” said Hobson.
CCSC through commissioner Brian Lim endorsed CFFL because the team was able to put up a selection of local players here in Cebu both for the men’s and women’s divisions.
The Guardians, another group joining the Manila tournament, also approached CCSC for financial support but the commission made clear that they can no longer support another group for lack of funds.
“Dili nami makahatag ug lain kay short nami ug budget,” said Velasquez.
To test its readiness for the Manila tournament, both the Guardians and the CFFL selection will have a scrimmage at Paref Springdale today.
