SEVERAL events are lined up with the staging of the 2012 Bantayan Beach Games this April 5 to 9 at the Sugar Beach, Sta. Fe and at Bantayan Island Nature Park Resort, Barangay Tamiao, Bantayan Island.

This was announced by event director Jerome Mil during yesterday’s launching at the Cebu City Sports Club together with Claudette Manus, Benjoe Gimenez and Jesse Arriola.

Last year, Sports Adventure Travel services and Sugbutriathlon had a triathlon, a sprint triathlon, Oceanman, Individual Time Trial for cycling, 5K open water swim and beach volleyball, most of them dominated by Canadian Matt O’Halloran, who won in the ITT, triathlon and open water swim.

With the help of Great Adventures and Concepts @ Work, organizers are adding more events, such as beach soccer tournament, mixed martial arts (MMA), kickboxing, 5K beach run, off-road duathlon and triathlon for kids.

“Last year, it was a week-long celebration. This year, it will be a longer and more exciting celebration,” race director Benjoe Gimenez said.

He said this year’s triathlon event will be the final leg of the Summit Triathlon Team Championship series, which will serve as a tune-up race for the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines set on Aug. 5 at Shangri-La Resort and Spa in Mactan, Cebu.

“We are expecting more top caliber triathletes to join this year’s edition and we are a bit pressured to surpass Leg 2’s successful staging, which was power-packed with the country’s top triathletes,” Gimenez said.

The team triathlon championships began in Panglao, Bohol, and followed by the recent staging of the second leg in Siquijor province, which made history with the first triathlon ever that was dominated by team Summit composed of Kristian Cabahug, Vincent Raymond Escobido, Loveleinell Casidsid, Jomer Lim and Zaldy Velano.
