THOUGH the Vaseline Men Xterra off-road triathlon championships will also be held on March 18, organizers of the 2nd Puglao Trail Run in Alcoy Cebu are confident of attracting 500 participants.
Head organizer and race director Karol Peter Montalbo of Black Shama Runners Club said they were able to attract some 400 participants in last year’s inaugural trail running.
“Last year, most of our participants were from Alcoy and the neighboring towns. This proves that people in the south are aware of the health benefits that they can get out of running and the thrill of doing trail running,” Montalbo told Sun.Star Cebu in a phone interview.
He added that this year they are also opening this race to elite and weekend warriors from the city who want to try the sport.
“We have so much to offer here. We assure them that they will enjoy the incredible sights especially in the 15K route wherein they will reach the Narra Park Resort in Sitio Lalin and Sta. Cruz. If we will have good weather, they will be able to see the breathtaking views of our neighboring islands such as Siquijor and Bohol,” Montalbo said.
The race, supported by the barangay council of Pugalo, offers the 3K, 5K and 15K divisions and is open to men and women. The proceeds of the event will go to the Philippine National Red Cross-Cebu Chapter.
Registration fee is pegged at P250 in all categories and runners may sign up at Runnr Ayala or at the Pugalo Barangay Hall.
