Team Summit Tri gets busy

TEAM Summit Tri is making use of the upcoming three triathlon events in Cebu to prepare for the over-all championship title of the Summit Triathlon Team Championship Series final leg on April 8 in Bantayan Island.

Leg 1 top female finisher Love Casidsid said as of now they are training individually to prepare themselves the upcoming three major triathlon events—Vaseline Men Xterra Off-road Triathlon Championship Series on March 18; Talisay triathlon on March 25; and the Speedo National Age Group Triathlon race on April 1.

The training they will be undergoing for these competitions is all geared toward the team’s aim of winning the overall team title of the Summit Triathlon.

“For now, we don’t train as a team but one thing is for sure, we are training on our own since most of us are joining the Xterra. We will be preparing for that since it will be the last and final leg and a lot of teams want to beat us,” Casidsid said.

The Summit Tri team is composed of Jose Merdino Lim, Kristian Cabahug and Vincent Raymund Escabido.

The team currently has 115 points earned from the last two legs.

However, Casidsid added that there is one thing that is different with their training compared to the others.

“It’s a bit different because for us because we are using mountain bikes for Xterra training, instead of road bikes and practice on the offroads. But this is a good avenue for training as it will make us more flexible and more competitive racers,” Casidsid said.

With the upsurge of triathlon in Cebu, race director Benjoe Gimenez said they are expecting more participants to join.

Triathlon is the highlight of the 10-sport event that will be featured in the Bantayan Island Beach Games 2012.

“During the second leg in Siquijor, we were able to gather 71 participants. It kept increasing so we are expecting 80 to 100 participants to join,” Gimenez said.
