A RIDER from Tagum City, Kimboy Pineda, unseated Cebuano daredevil Jon-Jon Adlawan for the 2011 MS Motosuit Motocross Rider of the Year, awarded yesterday at the Teatro Casino of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel.
Pineda won the most coveted title after winning the Expert Division.
"Even though we lost a family member, my nephew, who died last week because of an accident, I came here because I consider this as the biggest achievement in my motocross career. This is also my own way of letting you know how grateful I am that even if I’m not a Cebuano, you accepted me here and helped me become better,” said the emotional Pineda in his acceptance speech.
Pineda, however, admitted that it was Adlawan whom he looked up to, that motivated him to win the title.
"Because of Adlawan, I was motivated to strive hard and become the best I could possibly be in my chosen field of sport," added Pineda.
Pineda is the second non-Cebuano rider to win the ROY award of the race organized by Lou Ornopia.
The first was Irwin Uypitching of Dumaguete City who was named ROY in 2006.
