SOME of Cebu’s top athletes have confirmed their participation in the first Mantalongon Off-road Duathlon Race on May 12 in Dalaguete,Cebu.

This was disclosed yesterday by Sugbutriathlon’s Benjoe Gimenez, who will be handling the technical side of the event. Gimenez attended yesterday’s press conference together with Dalaguete Sports Commission chairman Joseph Cisneros, Almar Villahermosa and veteran triathlete Elmo Clarabal.

“We initiated this unique kind of sporting event to highlight the festivity in Mantalongon as part of our aggressive campaign of our town’s sports tourism under Mayor Ronald Cesante,” Cisneros said.

The event is part of the town’s 54th annual fiesta activities.

Villahermosa also mentioned said there will be a more comfortable traversing trip towards Mantalongon due to the on-going road repair from Poblacion Dalaguete to Mantalongon, which is expected to be completed in time of the event.

He added that they want to showcase Mantalongon, which is the summer capital of Cebu and the home of Cebu’s highest peak, Osmeña Peak, to the out-of-town participants as an ideal tourist destination and a perfect getaway during summer.

“The participants will enjoy the scenic and breath taking view of Mantalongon, the participants will get a chance to pass through the DENR nursery, which is a 48-hectare land filled with timberlands,” Gimenez said.

The race will feature a 3KM run, 15KM bike and 6KM run which will start from the Mantalongon National High school.
