Jaca gets slot in Pinoy Pride 15

AFTER almost a year without lacing his gloves, former world title challenger Jimrex Jaca makes his ring return on Aug. 18 in the 15th installment of the popular “Pinoy Pride” boxing series at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City.
The 29-year-old Jaca reunited with ALA Promotions just last month after breaking away from Spanish promoter Rafael Sancho. The renowned international boxing promotional outfit gave Jaca a slot in the upcoming “Pinoy Pride XV,” where he has to show an impressive performance.
“Yes, he is focused now as he knows this is his last chance,” ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.
Following an unsuccessful international campaign in Japan and Thailand, Jaca considered hanging up his gloves. However, after an absence of almost two years, Jaca decided to revive his career and asked for the help of ALA Promotions. Jaca fought three times under the ALA Promotions banner before deciding to sign up with Sancho, a decision that would once again hamper his slowly rising boxing career.
Jaca was given by Sancho three fights, once in 2010 and twice last year, but was left inactive after his third round stoppage over Felipe Demecillo in August last year.
ALA Promotions was planning to pit Jaca against Canadian prospect Steve Claggett but the latter declined.
“Claggett decided not to fight Jaca as he feels Jaca is too experienced,” said Aldeguer.
Aldeguer said that Jaca is facing a foreign opponent for his comeback fight.
