CEBU Volleyball Association’s (Ceva) new president Andrew Chuachoy wants his group to focus more on the volleyball grassroots program.
Chuachoy, who joined Ceva in 2000, said that he wants to develop more potential players and contribute in the development of volleyball in Cebu.
“We want to retain being the volleyball capital of the Philippines by providing more clinics, trainings as well as more tournaments,” Chuachoy said.
He added that after he has assumed the position, he asked Philippine Sports commission
beach volley consultant Eric Lecain to hold volleyball clinics last May.
“We want to take advantage of the presence of Lecain and we requested him to spearhead a two-week volleyball clinic last May,” Chuachoy said. “And it was a good start and I saw how the participants were very eager to learn the basics of the sport.”
Chuachoy said that it is the spring board for more clinics under Lecain.
Lecain, on the other hand, said that he is willing to be part of Ceva’s vision of producing more competent volleyball players through a grassroots program.
“The clinic was great, we got so much accomplish, girls were playing great by the end. I still get texts messages from parents that that one was very successful,” Lecain said.
Aside from the grassroots program, Chuachoy said they are also planning to organize open tournaments for the veteran and former collegiate players .
