CEBU City Sports Center manager Ricky Ballesteros assures his full support in the planned friendly match of the Philippine Azkals against Thailand on Nov. 15 at the newly refurbished Cebu Center Sport Center football field.
Ballesteros said that it will be a highly-anticipated match not only for the local football community but all Cebuanos who will witness the match live on their local soil.
“It’s high time that the Cebuanos will be entertained by high-caliber football teams in the country especially with our newly-refurbished football field at the center,” said Ballesteros.
This plan was cooked up by the Cebu Football Association and Azkals team manager Dan Palami.
Ballesteros said the CCSC has had enough experience in accommodating a huge crowd because of the Sinulog festival, which is held annually at the CSC.
“I hope they can finalize the project soonest so we can market and promote the project earlier. For sure, football fans from all over the country will come to Cebu and watch the games,” he said.
Ballesteros was supposed to meet with the CFA board last June 17 but it was called off because of the unresolved issue of the officers’ recognition. But now that all matters have been settled, he expects to meet with the officers to finalize the project.
The football field at the CCSC is in the final stages of the curing period after its renovation. It will be playable by the end of July.
Ballesteros said the field follows the international standard size.
He hopes that the project will be a start for international matches to be hosted by the city.
