IN her sixth straight 21K victory in Cebu, Mary Grace Delos Santos is now P84, 000 richer.
Since her vacation started after the Philippine National Games, Delos Santos has remained undefeated since the UP Run high to her latest win yesterday in the inaugural 21K of the Hunat Sugbo 2, a memorial run for the late hotel president Manuel Ting at The Terraces, Ayala.
She clocked 1:37.14 to win in the women’s open followed by Christy Tutor, who arrived in second place in 1:37:41 and Madelyn Carter, who arrived in 1:43:26 for the third place.
After she defended her title in the 21K of the Cebu City Marathon, Delos Santos swept the other half-marathon races of the SM2SM, Good Run, Globe Run for Home and last week’s DYAB Kapamilya Run.
But the cash prizes and the medals are incidental to her wins.
“She just participates in runs, she never really competes. She has a different preparation for major competitions,” said her coach Sherwin Managil.
After being slowed down by an injury last year, Delos Santos started focusing her training on on major runs, which bore fruit when she topped the 35th Milo Marathon National Finals last year.
Delos Santos will be returning to Manila for her Milo video shoot and to start her endurance preparation for her title defense.
Kenyan Joshphat Kiptanui led the men’s 21K in 1:12:32 followed by compatriot Abraham Missos in second place in 1:14:51. Adonis Singson settled for third place in 1:16:54.
Riez Enriquez overpowered Kenyan Francis Kakui to the finish line to win the men’s 12K open.
