MMA action set in August

SINCE the inception of MMA in the Philippines over a decade ago, never has the country seen an elite fighter in action.
The closest that the Filipinos have ever seen an MMA star in action was when UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre put on a training demonstration in 2010, promoting MMA in the country.
That will change next month as two renowned MMA warriors are slated in the ONE FC 5 show in Manila.
Japanese MMA poster boy Shinya Aoki and DREAM bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes are set to have their debut in ONE FC on Aug. 31 at the Araneta Coliseum after recently signing with the biggest MMA organization in Asia.
After his seven-fight losing streak was stopped by rival lightweight Eddie Alvarez in their rematch at the Bellator 66 event last April in the US, the 29-year-old Aoki will be back fighting in Asia under a new organization.
Aoki has an impressive MMA record of 30-6, wherein 19 of those wins were via submissions. The 32-year-old Fernandes, on the other hand, is 11-3 and is riding a three-fight winning streak.
