Team Philippines dumps Indonesia in world pool

FRESH from a sorry loss in the just-concluded World Pool-Billiards Association (WPA) World 9-Ball Championship in Doha, Qatar, Filipino cue masters headed by hall of famer Efren Reyes, Francisco Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo and Rubilen Amit are off to a blazing start in the 2012 World Pool Team Championship in China.
Team Philippines defeated Indonesia, 4-2, in Group A for a rousing start in the $300,000 tournament that offers $80,000 to the champion.
Indonesia was represented by Ricky Wang, Isral Afrinneza Nasution, Muhammad Zulfikri and Amand Rahayu in Group A.
Also in Group A is Team Croatia of Ivica Putnik, Bozo Primic, Carlo Calmatin and Zrinka Antonijevic that bested Team Estonia, 5-1.
In the World Team Championship, all disciplines are played—8-Ball, 9-Ball and 10-Ball.
One 8-ball match is a race to 6 men’s scotch doubles, while the other 8-ball features a men’s singles, race to 6.
In 9-ball, the teams will compete in women’s singles, race to 8, and a men’s singles race to 8.
In 10-ball, the teams will play one mixed-doubles match (scotch doubles), race to 7, and one men’s singles match.
The female player must play in the 10-ball mixed doubles match, and a 9-ball match and no player is permitted to play more than two matches per session. (PR)
