MONTHS of intense training and preparation paid off for the Cacoy Doce Pares Headquarters (CDP-HQ) team as they dominated the 2012 World Eskrima/Arnis Championships at the City Sports Club last month.
The CDP HQ team showed their mettle in almost every fight with exemplary performances in the single-stick, double-stick, kulata challenge, kata or sayaw and team categories, winning 19 gold medals, as well as 12 silver and 18 bornze medals.
The tournament attracted 11 foreign teams and six local clubs.
The University of Cebu arnis team got second place with a haul of 16-16-9. The team had the biggest entry with 40 participants, outnumbering the 35-strong CDP-HQ squad and the 20-man contingent from Adelaide, Australia’s International Combative Martial Arts Academy (ICMAA) Team.
Australia got third place with a 9-7-8 tally.
Other participating foreign teams were Reflex Centre of Wollongong, Australia, East Coast Doce Pares Institute of Sydney, Australia, Doce Pares Fighting Arts System of the USA, Cacoy Doce Pares New Zealand, Cacoy Doce Pares Alice Springs of Australia, Cacoy Doce Pares Darwin, Australia and the Millenium School of Martial Arts International of Poland.
The local teams of eskrimadors were from Borbon, Cagayan de Oro Arnis Team/World Arnis Organization, Doce Pares Kangaroo Fighting Systems of Cagayan de Oro and Cacoy Doce Pares Iligan.
After the tournament, which was part of Cacoy Doce Pares’ celebration of the 80th founding anniversary of Doce Pares, the group will be busy with more events this year.
Cacoy Doce Pares Canada and Mexico are inviting CDP Eskrima instructors to conduct seminars in their countries this year. Aside from these, there are also plans of holding eskrima tournaments in Canada, Mexico and Indonesia. (From PR)
