THE Cebu City Sports Commission will host the Visayas elimination for the 7th World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) in September at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Cebu Scrabble Association (CSA) president and tournament manager Roger Abella said that the Visayas elimination for the WYSC will be held a week after the Visayas Leg of the Milo Little Olypics.
“This will give our budding players a chance to participate in the tournament. Milo is a great source of strong and well-developed players,” Abella said in his e-mail to Sun.Star-Cebu.
The Visayas elimination will use most of the rules in the WYSC, and the Cebuano players are already familiar with them.
The 7th WYSC is for wordsmiths 17 years old and below, and will be held on Dec. 7-9 at the UK Britannia Hotel in Birmingham, England.
The Philippines has been given 10 slots and five will be up for grabs in the Visayas eliminations.
“WYSC is an individual event, but the aggregate results of all team members will be the basis for the team winners. In essence, we will have champions in the individual and teams,” said Abella.
This tournament is organized by the National Scrabble Association of the Philippines and the country’s top player Teodoro Martus is the tournament coordinator.
