UPCOMING billiard stars Carlo Biado, Jericho Banares and Johan Cua have confirmed participation in the Class A competition of the Sun.Star Superbalita 9-ball Challenge 2012 on July 19-22 at the SM City Cebu Trade Hall.
Biado is the reigning National Open champion, Banares was a former national juniors champion and the 2008 WPA World junior silver medalist, while Cua is another youthful billiard upstart.
“We have Carlo Biado, Jericho Banares and Johan Cua coming to play. But we expected more upstarts from Manila coming to play since we only have Gandy “Yang Yang” Valle, Ricky Zerna and Jundy Mazon among our seeded players coming since the others are in the US playing for a tournament,” said tournament organizer Christian Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez reminded the Class B and Collegiate Division players of the registration requirements on July 19.
The collegiate players need to show their ID cards and study load for this semester before they can register. College division registration fee is P500, while it’s P1,200 for the Class B participants.
There will be a 50 percent discount on the registration fee to a player who can bring five mastheads of Sun.Star Superbalita.
“The registration will start at 10 a.m. All players are expected to come early as registration closes at 11 a.m. All players must wear pants, shirts and shoes to be able to join the competition. Shorts, sleeveless shirts and slippers are not allowed during the competition,” Rodriguez added.
The Class A division will have its qualifying tournament on July 20, Friday at 10 a.m.
Registration fee is P2,500 with 50 percent discount for those who can present five Sun.Star Superbalita mastheads.
The Elementary and High School divisions will be played this coming Saturday and registration fee is P400.
