BEING in the presence of one of the best light flyweight boxers in the world, IBF light flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero, is a huge confidence builder for an up-and-comer like Virgilio Silvano.
The 22-year-old is eager to follow in the footsteps of his Omega Gym stable mate and expects to make a statement tonight against Charlie Cabilla.
“Sparring with him was a challenge for me. Casimero has inspired me. I also want to be a world champion like him,” Silvano, 11-2-1 with six knockouts, told Sun.Star Cebu after yesterday’s weigh-in. “He (Cabilla) is tough but I can take him on. I will knock him out.”
Silvano and Cabilla are scheduled to lock horns in Fight Fury I at the J Centre Mall Convention Hall.
Silvano tipped the scales slightly below the 108-pound limit at 107 ¾ pounds, while Cabilla was half a pound over the weight limit. He had to break a sweat and weighed in at exactly 108 in his second attempt.
“I won’t promise a knockout but I will try my best,” said Cabilla, 12-10-4 with two knockouts. “I had a good training camp.”
