FILIPINO favorite Jay Bayron and other local bets find themselves in a stiff competition against top players on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) Order of Merit as they face each other in the Aboitiz Invitational presented by ICTSI from Aug. 8-11 at the Cebu Country Club.
Current ADT Order of Merit leader Ryan Bulloch of Australia, Peter Richardson of England and Australians Luke Bleumink and Anthony Choat will be present for the cash-rich event, which stakes $65,000 in cash prizes.
The event served as the seventh leg of the 11-stage ADT.
"We are expecting more international players this year especially that it falls into no conflict with other tournaments," said the general manager of Philippine Golf Tournament, Inc. Colo Ventosa.
Bayron will be seeking a three-peat after securing his second ADT victory at the Bii Maybank ADT Challenge in Indonesia last month.
“I have my own goal of finishing as high as I can on the OOM and I’ll need a good result to accomplish that,” said Bayron.
“Many Filipinos have excelled on the Asian Tour and it motivates me to try my best and earn an Asian Tour card through the ADT," he added.
Also not missing their chances in the premier event are Asian Tour No. 1 Juvic Pagunsan and fellow Asian Tour campaigners Tony Lascuna, Angelo Que, Mars Pucay, Artemio Murakami and Filipino rising star Miguel Tabuena.
The top three players at the end of the ADT season will earn cards for next year’s Asian Tour.
Meanwhile, the Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. (PGTI), the organizer of Southeast Asia’s largest national golfing circuit, the Philippine Golf Tour (PGT), was delighted to work closely with the ADT again.
“PGTI has been leading the Philippines in creating and sustaining a vibrant local golfing industry. This August, we are proud to once again present the third annual Aboitiz Invitational at the Cebu Country Club, the last PGT Visayan leg for the year and the first of two Philippine legs of the Asian Development Tour,” said Enrique K. Razon Jr., PGTI chairman and president.
