LAPU-LAPU City rolled out the red carpet for its guests of the Cobra Ironman International Triathlon last Sunday, making it another prime sports tourism destination in the country.
The event, which also served as the qualifying stage for the world championships in Hawaii, accommodated 1,700 athletes from 31 countries.
The event, which was co-organized with Cebu Province, Mandaue City, Cebu City and Talisay City, was added to the city’s list of international events hosted, including the two Davis Cup group tie matches.
“The Oponganons showed that with cooperation and unity we can make an international event a big success,” said Lapu-Lapu Mayor Paz Radaza.
Although the public were inconvenienced about the closure of the major roads, Radaza said that it was an unavoidable circumstance to make sure that the race will go on
smoothly as planned.
“I am truly thankful to the Oponganons for making a sacrifice, for being patient and understanding,” she added. (PR)
