SOUTHEAST Asian Games (Seagames) gold medalist John Renee Mier of LBC team A took Stage 1 of the “Cebu Challenge Cycling Classic” which started at the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds and finished at the Bogo City.
The 20-year-old Mier, who is also a member of the PH cycling team, completed the 101.7-kilomeer race in 2:13:48.32 and was followed LPG American Vinyl Manila’s Rustom Lim (2:13.58.32) for the second and teammate Cris Joven (2:14:08.32).
“Teamwork amo gibuhat during the whole duration of the race from Cebu to Bogo. They didn’t let me lead the pack but instead they let me race side by side with them. It was a tough race because of the wind,” said Mier, who won the best young rider of the 2012 Ronda Pilipinas.
“This is my first time to race with this kind of route. I just hope that I can still maintain my lead tomorrow but daghan mahitabo, we will just give our best,” said Mier
Mier said he took advantage of his vast experience being a member of the PH track cycling team . They usually trains in the 400-meter track at the Amoranto Stadium Velodrome.
Mier added that one of the reason they wanted to join this race is because this will serve as part of their training and preparation for the upcoming East Java Tour in Indonesia later this month.
