EVERY fighter has his own Achilles’ heel and after carefully analyzing Rosbel Montoya’s, Jason Pagara says he has found it and will capitalize on it tonight.
“We are going to put pressure on him,” said Joseph Badalgo, the young coach of Pagara.
“He likes to throw punches moving forward so we’re going to force him to backpedal.”
Pagara and Montoya, who both tipped the scales at 139 ½ pounds, are fighting for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) International light welterweight crown at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino tonight.
“I’m excited to step into the ring. I’m certain that someone is going to get knocked out,” said the 20-year-old Pagara.
Last year, Montoya put on a boxing clinic against Pagara and outpointed him for a unanimous decision victory. The 27-year-old Mexican hopes to beat Pagara again in the rematch.
“I have trained hard. I’m ready to rumble. Watch out, Pagara,” said Montoya.
In the supporting main event, undefeated Genesis Servania (18-0, 7 KOs) is up against fellow up-and-comer Jorge Pazos (21-3, 14 KOs) for the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific super bantamweight strap.
Meanwhile, veteran former world title challenger Jimrex Jaca (34-6-3, 19 KOs) returns to the ring after a year off against hard-hitting Mexican youngster Angel Martinez (18-2-1, 13 KOs).
Jaca had difficulty making weight and was three pounds over the limit at 143 pounds. After sweating it out, he finally made weight.
“Prince” Albert Pagara (11-0, 9 KOs) faces off with Alvin Makiling (9-4-3, 2 KOs) in a special eight-round bout.
In the undercard of “Pinoy Pride XV – Philippines vs. Mexico – The Rematch” boxing event, Mark Vincent Bernaldez (5-0, 4 KOs) will be gunning for his sixth straight victory against Joash Apericio (8-7, 6 KOs) and Juren Labordo (4-0, 1 KO) will take on Powell Balaba (2-7-1, 1 KO).
Crowd favorite Jun Intor (19-10-7, 7 KOs) will once again showcase his ring antics against Peter Aldrin (1-0), and JP Artieda (1-0) trades leathers with Hector Rojoca (0-2).
