FOURTH leg winner Juan Antonio Carcel looks at extending his win in the fifth leg of the 2012 Superkart Series, which starts this Saturday at the Kartzone Race Circuit.
Carcel wants to grab the Karter of the Year title from Red Bull Supreme’s Jette Calderon.
Carcel now has 159 points and holds a five-point lead over Calderon in the KT 100 expert division. Last year, Carcel failed to complete the series, joining only once to give way to his studies.
“I only joined the final leg last year. This year, I am aiming to win it,” said the 16-year-old Carcel, who was the 2008 Mini ROK champion and Karter of Year of the Shell Superkarting Series.
On the other hand, Calderon is not taking his sight away from securing his fourth Karter of the Year title.
“I need to be consistent during the race because this would bring me the Karter of the Year award. I am only five points behind Tonyo, so it wouldn’t be hard to catch up,” Calderon said.
He added that his training is doing pretty well and that he is confident about the race.
“I’ve been training for months now, so I’m pretty prepared for this coming race,” said the 15-year-old Calderon.
Third
Coming in third over-all in the KT 100 expert division is Joseph Rojo, with 149 points, who intends to recover the points he lost in the last leg when his kart’s chain broke, and he was not able to finish the course.
“Well, actually, I prepared my kart and myself since last Saturday and still need a bit of corrections. But I heard that there’s a typhoon coming, so I’m expecting rain this Saturday, and I have to prepare myself for the rain,” Rojo said.
JT Gullas earned 100 points and Sean Velasco 90 points for the 4th and 5th spot.
In the KT Masters, Panpan Reroma leads with 192 points, followed by Reagan King with 141 in second. Wilson Ong had 20 for the third spot, and Peterson Lim with 10 for the fourth spot.
KT Novice leader is Vince Rojo with 179 points, followed by Kali Carcel with 170 for the second, Jed Binoya with 90 points for the third spot and Peter Edward Lim with 37 points for the fourth spot.
Other leaders
Clive Fermin with 178 points is currently holding the top spot in the Honda Expert, followed by Dondi Binoya with 124 points for the second, Lord Seno with 85 points for the third, Jess Garcia with 67 points and Wally Lim with 20 points for the fourth and fifth spot, respectively.
The other leaders in their respective divisions are Frederick Cortes, with 124 points in the Honda novice, Liam Sacal with 163 points for the Mini Rok and Rap-Rap Gutierez with 177 points in the SQ Cadet category.
