Amit stays undefeated in 10-ball

FORMER Sportswriters Association of Cebu Athlete of the Year Rubilen “Bingkay” Amit routed Taipei’s C.Y. Chou, 6-4, in Group 7 to advance to the next round of the World Pool-Billiard Association 4th Annual Yalin Women’s World 10-Ball Championship yesterday at the Robinson’s Galleria in Ortigas.
The win gave the Cebuana a 3-0 slate in the single round group eliminations, allowing her to clinch a spot in the Last 24 of the annual event featuring the world’s leading cuemasters.
“Chou is strong but I played better at the endgame,” said Amit, who also beat B.R. Jung of Korea, 6-2, and K.Yukawa of Japan, 6-1, in the earlier round.
“My main target is to win my remaining games for a possible automatic slot in the Final 16,” said Amit, who won the Women’s World 10-Ball Championship in 2008.
Amit will face Y.T. Chan of Chinese-Taipei and I.Helvik of Norway in the event that offers $21,000 to the champion.
Meanwhile, 13-year-old Cheska Centeno of Zamboanga City bounced back after a sorry loss to Yu Ram Cham of Korea by edging A. Mazhirina of Russia, 6-5, for a a 3-1 slate in Group 1. Yu, on the other hand, leads the group with a 4-0 clean slate.
Centeno took a 2-0 commanding lead against Yu before losing the next six racks for her 6-2 loss.
However, another Filipino entry Iris Rañola is out of the hunt for a spot in the knockout round after losing to S. M. Chen of China, 6-0. The World no.2 Chen topped Group 4 with a 4-1 slate and advanced to next round. (PR)
