DEFENDING champion University of San Carlos (USC) lost to the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 in the men’s division of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation (Cesafi) volleyball tournament at the USC Gym.
USPF, which lost to USC in the finals last year, banked on John Michael Ylanan, Gwenkeven Ricj Ausan, Nino Rey Ymbong and John Paul Tagonon for the win.
“We have been playing USC in the Cesafi championship for a couple times and we usually end up as runner-up. We hope that we can finally make it this year. I believe we have a great chance especially with how my players performed,” said USPF head coach Joerem Yu.
USPF leads standing with 15 points, while USC is third with eight points.
The University of San Jose-Recoletos is second with 13 points after beating Southwestern University (SWU) in a thrilling five-setter, 30-28, 25-23, 17-25, 23-25, 15-12. SWU is fourth in the standing with seven points.
