THE Cebu City Sports Center Football field is scheduled to go through a rehabilitation period to prepare it for the Azkals friendly match against Singapore on Nov. 15.

This means that for the period required by the Philippine Football Federation, the field will not be available for use in any tournament and even in practices.

The pitch will undergo minor improvements such as cutting of the grass, leveling the field and putting fertilizer on the soil to make the grass greener.

Cebu Football Association tournament head Glen Quisido said that once the works are started, the field will no longer be available for playing.

Requirement

PFF had required a 45-day rehabilitation period, ideal for the entire month of October until days leading to the friendly match.

“We still have to agree on when to start, but the instruction of PFF is 45 days. We have to comply with that or we inform them of a new period,” said Quisido.

But CCSC Manager Ricky Ballesteros said 30 days is enough.

“These are just basic improvements to preserve the field for the game, which is part of our responsibility as host to come up with a good playing field,” said Ballesteros.

He said the rainy weather is good for the field. However, he still maintains that the field is not playable under rainy conditions.

Post-game

Ballesteros also confirmed that the rehabilitation will only start after the Cebu Schools Athletic Founders Inc. Football Secondary Competition final games on Oct. 13.

This has been affirmed by Cesafi Football Tournament manager Francis Ramirez, who said
all games will be played in the sports center, even the tertiary championship games on Oct. 7 at the Aboitiz Field will now be in CCSC.

The City Olympics on Nov. 8-12 will be booked at the University San Carlos Football Field in Talamban City so that it won’t disrupt the field’s rehabilitation.
