DON Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) continued to show off its championship form as it demolished University of San Carlos (USC), 12-0, in the high school division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. football competition yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Complex football pitch.
Yves Caballero opened the rout in the sixth minute, scoring the first of his five goals. Kent Lusoc scored a hat trick, while Vincent Lovitos had two goals. Lui Garciano and Nil Ryan Bono also had a goal apiece each in DBTC’s rousing debut of the tournament.
In the other match, Christian Reyvin Millebo put on an amazing individual performance, leading the University of the Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) to an easy 8-1 rout over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).
Millebo undoubtedly was the man of the match, scoring seven of USPF’s eight goals in their first win after losing last week’s debut against Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.
It was a close contest in the first half with USPF up 1-0 off a goal by Millebo in the 39th minute, but in the second half, USJ-R’s defense finally gave way.
With just four minutes into the second half, Millebo broke the ice and struck from point-blank range after catching his own miss that bounced off the far post. Millebo quickly followed it up with another goal in the 45th and another in the 49th to make it 4-0 in a span of 11 minutes.
From then on it was cruise control for USPF, with Mellibo scoring three more goals in the 56th, 60th and 66th minutes, while James Velasquez hit the back of the net in the 61st minute.
Defender John Escarda had a rare mistake for near flawless USPF and gave away an own goal in the 78th minute.
Today, it will be the turn of the college division, with USJ-R taking on University of Cebu in the first game, and USC facing UV in the second.
USJ-R is off a morale-boosting 2-0 win over USC last Sept. 9, while UC lost its last game against USC, 2-1, last week.
