Lancers eager to get even in Game 2

IT’S back to the drawing board for the University of the Visayas Green Lancers after they were humbled by the Southwestern University Cobras in Game 1 of the best-of-5 championship series for the 2012 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) college division title last Tueday.
But today, UV coach Felix “Donbel” Belano Jr. promised that his boys will bounce back and reduce the series down to three games when they meet in Game 2 at 6 p.m. at the Cebu Coliseum.
“We studied the video and nakita namo everything went wrong. We did not execute our game plans in both offense and defense. Nagkanya-kanya og duwa. We became complacent because the players felt we were invincible because we beat them (SWU) twice,” Belano told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
In order to regain their confidence, UV is heading back to where they started – that is the moment when they won nine straight games early this season.
“Back to the drawing board. Back to when we won nine straight games. Everything in Game 1 was all wrong, everything. So we will leave that (loss) behind now and try to move forward and look back how we’ve won games. We needed every little thing makatabang sa pagdaug. We will just try to execute and I’m sure we will bounce back and we will win Game 2,” said Belano.
Last Tuesday, the Lancers did not display what the other teams feared – its unforgiving defense and all-around offensive game.
Instead, UV was trying to contest the inside defense of the Cobras, not the usual inside-outside-drive offensive attack. And when they realized that the game was already slipping out of their grasp, SWU was already ahead by 15 points.
Defensively, UV’s transition defense was not working and its inside defense was loose.
