Handig to finally face Takayama-A A +A

AFTER a long delay, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) mini-flyweight title eliminator between Filipino Mateo “Singwangcha” Handig and former world champion Katsunari Takayama will finally push through this Saturday at the La Trinidad Gym in Benguet.
No. 11 ranked Handig and No. 6 rated Takayama were mandated by the IBF to face each other over four months ago and were scheduled to face each other last month. But for some reason the fight was delayed.
This is the biggest fight of the 23-year-old Handig’s three year boxing career and Takayama is also the only renowned name that he has faced. In 17 fights, Handig has only faced fellow Filipino fighters but he is on a four-fight winning streak and has a 12-5 record with seven knockouts.
The 29-year-old Takayama, on the other hand, is in contrast with Handig and has seen it all. The Japanese boxing veteran has once held the World Boxing Council (WBC) and interim World Boxing Association (WBA) mini-flyweight title belts and has fought the best in the lower weights.
