THE bar has been raised in the 10th season of the Shakey’s Girls’ Volleyball League because for the first time a foreign squad is competing in the national leg of the country’s premiere high school girls’ volleyball tournament.
“The Australian team in the Tournament of Champions will raise the level of competitiveness,” said tournament organizer Johanz Danyz Buenvenida during a press conference last Wednesday night.
“Every season, we try to come up with something new and the inclusion of the Australian team will be the feature for this season.”
The Australian squad that will be competing in the final leg or the Tournament of Champions on Jan. 22 to 26 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila is composed of a selection of players from Victoria.
Buenvenida clarified that the Australian squad isn’t a guest team but will be competing for the national title against the eight regional winners and the host team.
“They are enthusiastic to come,” he said.
