SACRED Heart-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles continue to soar after winning against archrival Don Bosco Technical Center for the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. secondary football title yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

After winning over Don Bosco in the Milo Little Olympics, pundits dismissed it saying, it was just luck, but Ateneo proved that it was more than just a stroke of luck, as they prevailed over the champions for the second straight time.

The Eagles, under head coach Lito Ramos, dethroned the former champions, 4-1, to reclaim its 2010 title which was then handled by Ramos’ brother, Vincent who is now acting as CFA match assessor.

This time, Ramos went up against another brother DBTC head coach Glen.

Karlo Miguel Villamor put on an outstanding performance after scoring a hat trick, which capped the team’s scoring rampage from an early goal from Joshua Miguel Kwan.

Ateneo also capitalized on Don Bosco’s weak defense. Kwan scored from a long shot in the 15th minute, which was out of the keeper’s reach. This boosted the boys as they continued to be aggressive.

In the 25th minute, Villamor snuck past the Don Bosco defenders to bank his first goal of the game, to bring Ateneo to a 2-0 lead.

Villamor’s second goal came from another one-on-one with the Don Bosco keeper, who miscalculated and tried to save the shot but dove on the side opposite to Villamor’s shot for Ateneo to lead, 3-0.

DBTC finally scored its first goal through Nil Ryan Bono in the 66th minute but it was not enough to catch up with the aggressive Eagles, who remained consistent all throughout the game.

Villamor went on speeding in the left corner and struck a goal from Jun Carlo Canlas’s pass in the 67th minute to close the game at 4-1.

The regular trainings and physical fitness test paid off for the boys who now hold their third title of the year after they secured the Ignatian Goodwill Games and Milo Little Olympics football tournament.

“The boys played with confidence. Nindot ilang performance and coordination plays,” said Ramos.

Ramos revealed that for their last tune-up match, they played against collegiate team University of San Carlos who defeated them with only one goal.
