IN PREPARATION for his much-anticipated US debut, unbeaten prospect Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. is training with the best—Manny Pacquiao.
Dodie Boy is in Gen. Santos City preparing for his US debut. He is scheduled to fight a yet-to-be-named opponent in the Pacquiao-Marquez 4 undercard on Dec. 8 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
“He’s doing okay. (Dodie Boy) Jr. is there in Gen San with Manny,” retired two-division world champion Dodie Boy Sr., the father and trainer of Dodie Boy Jr., told Sun.Star Cebu.
Dodie Boy Jr., a former amateur standout, passed the toughest test of his young professional career against Indonesian journeyman Alex Buckie last April at the Mandaue Sports Complex. Dodie Boy Jr. knocked out Buckie in the ninth round of the scheduled 10-round fight, improving to 9-0.
Michael Farenas is also among the Filipino fighters that are seeing action in the undercard. Farenas’ opponent is also undetermined.
Farenas fought undefeated World Boxing Association super featherweight champion Takashi Uchiyama in Japan. The outcome was frustrating as it ended in a third-round technical draw after Uchiyama suffered a huge cut from an accidental headbutt.
