UNIVERSITY of San Carlos ladies football team bowed out of the University Games after losing to Ateneo de Manila University, 3-0, in Bacolod.
“Naubusan ang mga bata. Hindi naka sustain until second half,” said head coach Garry Panagsagan.
The girls pushed for a strong start in the first half in the hope of scoring ahead but the defense Ateneo, mostly made up of Philippine national under-19 players, held on.
USC got a chances of a free kick but it went sky high while Jesusseane Gerobiese’s attempt was called offside by the referee. The girls went for high press but that merely sapped their energy, leading to a lethargic second half.
Ateneo will face De La Salle Univeristy, while University of the Philippines will take on 2011 runner-up University of Santo Tomas in the semifinals.
However, all is not over for USC, as the team will have a tuneup with the girls Under 16 national team at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod and the team will also join the Girls 17 and 19 division of the Sun.Star Football Cup next month.
