THE Alaska Aces try to stretch their winning run to four when they collide against the Ginebra Kings, while San Mig Coffee and Barako Bull seek their third win today in the 38th PBA Philippine Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
Fresh from their 92-81 triumph over Air 21 last Friday, the Aces of coach Luigi Trillo face Ginebra Kings at 6:30 p.m. following the Barako Bull and San Mig Coffee battle at 4:15 p.m.
Coach Trillo’s team showed the heart and intensity to beat the Express and tied Meralco at the third spot with similar 3-2 slates. A win by the Aces would improve their card to 4-2 and place them in third position behind defending champion Talk ‘N Text (5-0) and Rain or Shine (4-1).
Both the Elasto Painters and the Tropang Texters were still playing at press time in Victorias City, Negros Occidental.
Veterans Dondon Hontiveros and Sonny Thoss along with rookie Calvin Abueva are expected to lead Trillo’s charges, while Cyrus Baguio is a doubtful starter, following an injury he got during the game against Air 21.
The 6’4” Abueva, last year’s NCAA MVP, proved to be a force to be reckoned with when he secured his second double-double performance with 16 points and 12 rebounds in just two games in the professional league.
