Nietes gets on track for title defense-A A +A

DONNIE Nietes is right on track for his title defense next year.
Nietes will most likely be defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight crown against current WBO mini-flyweight champion Moises Fuentes, who plans to move up in weight, in February.
“Donnie’s training is doing well; the tune up fight in Dumaguete helped him to be in shape early. He knows that Fuentes won’t be easy as he is a world champion himself as he just knocked out Ivan Calderon in his last fight,” ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.
ALA Promotions is currently in negotiations with its Mexican counterpart Zanfer Promotions for the world title bout. There is no definite venue or date but Aldeguer said the fight may be staged in Mexico or in Cebu City on Feb. 2 or 9.
“We are still negotiating with Zanfer now. They also want to promote the fight in Mexico but we’ll do everything we can to bring the fight here. Fuentes is managed by Marco Antonio Barrera’s brother. There will be a possibility that Marco Antonio Barrera will be coming to Cebu, which will be great for the Cebuano fans,” said Aldeguer.
If the fight goes to Mexico, it will be the 30-year-old Nietes’ fourth world title fight there. He has won all his fights in Mexico against Erik Ramirez, Manuel Vargas and International Boxing Federation mini-flyweight champion Mario Rodriguez.
