CCSC adds archery to list of priorities

FOR the coming year, the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) is planning to add another event in its barangay grassroots program—archery.
This developed after Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Dondon Sombrio promised to supervise the program.
Archery is known to be an expensive sport, but CCSC director Edward Hayco said they have devised a plan to address this concern.
“Dondon will produce 500 archery sets using bamboo so he could train 5,000 kids. We'll develop a training pool from these kids,” Hayco said.
“It will be both a challenge and a fulfillment to have an archer from the barangay win a gold medal,” Hayco said.
Before the grassroots program starts in February, CCSC will also be including archery in the list of tournaments in the Sinulog Cup set on Jan. 26 at the South Road Properties.
CCSC executive director Brando Velasquez said that this will be a good way to reintroduce the sport to the Cebuanos and to kindle interest.
