THE Cebu City Sports Center, an 18-year-old sports complex, finally underwent an all-important facelift in 2012.
With its track oval oozing melted rubber from the cracks, it had become a safety hazard to the running public and elite athletes.
It was closed for months as a P26-million renovation was being done.
In April, it was finally reopened.
It opened with Cebu’s hosting of the Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Collegiate games.
Later in the year, the football field was also renovated for Cebu’s hosting of the international friendly between the Philippine national team and Singapore. This impressed the entire country as it was transformed into an international-quality football field.
The CCSC was put up in 1994 when Cebu City hosted the national sporting meet Palarong Pambansa.
With the new look, new rules and regulations were implemented in CCSC’s desire to preserve the field, especially since it will cater to over a thousand runners daily as well as other health buffs who wants to enjoy the other facilities in the CCSC.
One of the major things the CCSC wanted implemented was the wearing of proper running shoes.
Rubber shoes should be worn at all times since the other kinds like leather and heeled shoes will damage the tracks.
Also, no one is allowed to use Lanes 1 and 2 in order to extend the life span of the oval. These will only be used during competitions.
For the field, the management will no longer allow festival types of tournament as this will easily ruin the field and grass takes weeks to grow back.
