THE Smart Gilas Pilipinas will leave the country today for the Dubai Open Invitational, which will be on Jan. 10-17 at the Al Ahli Gym.

However, Gilas has again failed to include Cebuano center June Mar Fajardo in their line-up after Petron Blaze Boosters did not allow their players to join the national team program.

Coach Chot Reyes picked Jay-R Reyes and Ronjay Buenafe of the Meralco Bolts for the slots vacated by Fajardo and Arwind Santos.

The other PBA player who was tapped to beef up the national squad was Air 21’s moneyman KG Cañaleta.

Cebu, however, will still be represented as Fil-Am Gregg Slaughter has returned to the fold of the national men’s team, which was the main reason why he left University of the Visayas in 2010.

Returning to the national squad is naturalized center Marcus Douthit along with the members of the cadet team Matthew Rosser, Garvo Lanete, RR Garcia, Ronald Pascual, Kevin Alas, Jake Pascual and Fil-Am guard Justin Melton, who takes the place of LA Tenorio.
