SBP hopes to snag Fiba-Asia hosting

THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) sees a glimmer of hope to have the Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship in September in Manila.
This after Fiba Asia had stripped Lebanon of the hosting of the Fiba World Cup 2014 Qualifying tournament after they awarded it last year.
The reasons for it were still uncertain but a clause in that agreement states that the Philippines will host should Lebanon fail to do so.
The Philippines lost the hosting rights to Lebanon despite preparing an impressive presentation during the Fiba-Asia Executive Board Meeting last September in Japan.
Fiba-Asia Secretary General Hagop Khajirian informed the Lebanese Basketball Federation of the stripping of the hosting rights of the 2013 Fiba Asia Men’s Championships.
The top three teams in this tournament will get a slot to the Fiba World Cup, which will be held in Spain in 2014.
Fiba-Asia is expected to officially announce the hosting of the event on Jan. 10.
