THE Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima World Federation (CDPEWF) will celebrate the 81st foundation anniversary of Doce Pares on Jan. 12 at its main headquarters in C. Padilla St., Cebu City.
The annual celebration serves as a reunion for the hundreds of eskrimadors affiliated with Cacoy Doce Pares and to showcase their system of self-defensein an action- packed programme.
There will be demonstrations and exhibitions, not only in stickfighting, but also, in unarmed combat, as Eskrimadors show their mettle using the Cacoy Doce Pares system.
The highlight of the event will be the induction of the new set of officers for 2013, with Rep. Tomas Osmeña as guest of honor.
The 81st founding anniversary celebration will usher in various activities, such as the possible holding of seminar workshops with some local government units and private entities led by Supreme Grandmaster Ciriaco “Cacoy” Canete, who was again elected as the president of CDPEWF for this year.
Cañete said that he is looking forward for the publication this year of his book on Stick & Dagger (Olisi/Baraw), which he will finish in May.
According to Cañete, Eskrima Grandmaster Vince Palumbo of the International Combative Martial Arts Academy based in Adelaide, Australia, an affiliate of Cacoy Doce Pares, was invited to Hong Kong by the organizers of a Wushu competition to do a demonstration of the Cacoy Doce Pares system of Eskrima for the fourth time.
Cacoy considers this an honor and a major achievement for Cacoy Doce Pares, that established martial arts groups in Hong Kong give recognition and acknowledgment to the Cacoy Doce Pares system since Hong Kong has its own forms of martial arts. (PR)
