Roque tops Infinitum tourney

NATIONAL Master Merben Roque pocketed the P2,500 cash prize after winning the Infinitum Chess tournament of the Colonnade Mall Sinulog Chess Festival held at the 2nd floor Activity Center.
Roque scored a total of 4.5 points after five rounds to win the title in the first Infinitum Chess tournament since 2006.
Infinitum is a variation of chess created by Cebu chess patron Boojie Lim back in 2000.
Joel Pacuribot got second place, while Mark Mangubat got third place.
Meanwhile, Yves Christian Fiel took the lead in the men’s open entering the final round yesterday. Fiel had a perfect 6.0 points after six rounds and was challenged by NM Rogelio Enriquez Jr. who has 5.5. NM Roque, Kiddies sensation Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano and Natividad have 5.0 points each.
