CEBUANO International Master Kim Steven Yap settled for a share of second to fourth places after losing to Jinghan Cameron Goh of Singapore in the 7-Round Swiss System Kickoff Chess Tournament Open Division in Bishan, Singapore last Sunday.
Yap, who was the top seed of the tournament scored a total 6.0 points, beating all his opponents except for Goh who scored a surprise win in the third round.
Singapore’s upcoming player Weiliang Tan won the tournament, which attracted 94 players, after scoring a total of 6.5 points.
However, Yap’s finish prevented an all-Singaporean sweep in the top four, as Fide Master Jingyao Tin also got 6.0 points.
Yap opened his campaign with a win over Doshi Devansh and Zheng Kai Heng before dropping his match against Goh.
