Black credits defense for sweep vs. Rain or Shine

MANILA — Talk N Text coach Norman Black cited good defense, better rotation and good offensive rebounding as the key to their 4-0 sweep over Rain or Shine in the 38th PBA Philippine Cup.
“It’s always been my philosophy that defense wins championships. The balance of the team is also the key. Better rotation and good offensive rebounding likewise made us win,” said Black, who won his 11th title as a coach. He had nine titles with San Miguel Beer, including a grand slam in 1989.
The 55-year-old Black, who just assumed the coaching chores as a replacement to former mentor Chot Reyes last September, said that after his first mission, which is winning the All-Filipino title, is accomplished, they will now focus on the Commissioner’s Cup.
Reyes, who also provided three titles for the Tropang Texters, moved to the RP-Smart Gilas National team, which will see action in the 2013 FIBA-Asia Championship in Manila on Aug. 1 to 11.
