Dewfoam erases 21-point gap to stun Pilipinas Shell

DEWFOAM ‘88 stunned Pilipinas Shell ‘80s, erasing a 21-point deficit early in the second quarter for a 72-64 win in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s (Cecaba) 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup last Thursday evening at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Batch 88 prevented the Chester Cokaliong-led Class ‘80s from scoring its second win as it overcame a 33-12 deficit starting with a 15-0 run to get closer 33-27.
The 80s restored a double-digit lead at 41-31 after Cokaliong sank a triple but Batch 88 kept the pace, and evened the game at 43-all. The game was closely fought from there before the younger batch dropped a 10-0 run to take the lead for good.
Ricky Yu played the hero’s role for Class ‘88, falling just two assists short of a triple double. He scored 14 points on top of 19 rebounds and eight assists. Erwin Yu also had a breakout game as he topscored for the team with 21 points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists. Robert Lim finished with 16 points on top of three assists and three rebounds.
Stephen Tan led Class 80s with 13 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists.
Cokaliong was limited to just 12 points after scoring 27 in the season opener. Wilson Yu made 12 points on top of 16 rebounds and Ryan Alex Mendez made 11 points.
Meanwhile, Rodney Lindimar Co had 13 points and Kevin Mamac to lead Best World Lifestyle 2004 to a 66-61 win over Young Builders ‘91.
