THE Mexicans defended their turf after warding off two Filipino warriors yesterday.

Veteran former world champion Hugo Cazares did just enough to escape with a unanimous decision win over up-and-comer Rey Perez in a closely-contested 12-round title fight for the vacant World Boxing Council international silver title.

All three judges saw the 34-year-old two-division world titleholder winning by scores of 115-113, 115-113 and 115-112.

Hard-hitting Felipe Orucuta quickly demolished Fernando Lumacad with a first round knockout.
